MADISON, Wis. -

A 42-year-old Madison woman has been arrested after she grabbed a purse from a south side McDonald's and ran out of the store, according to Madison police.

The incident happened just after 6:30 p.m. Thursday at the restaurant in the 2400 block of S. Park Street.

According to police, Sheryl Barnes grabbed the purse from a table in the McDonald's and took off. Police said the victim and a witness chased after her and tried to get the purse back in the parking lot.

Police said Barnes began swinging an item at the victim and the witness to keep them away from her before running away to another home.

Police arrested Barnes at the home and have charged her with theft and robbery. A McDonald's employee was able to retrieve the purse and get it back to the victim, according to police.
