ROTHSCHILD, Wis. -

Republican legislative leaders at the state party convention are touting passage of a bill designed to make it easier to open an iron ore mine in northern Wisconsin and promising to cut taxes.

Senate Majority Leader Scott Fitzgerald said at Saturday's convention near Wausau that passing the mining bill earlier this year will lead to the creation of jobs for generations.

Both he and Assembly Speaker Robin Vos also promise to pass a number of other Republican priorities.

Vos said the state's private school voucher program will be expanded this year, property taxes will be held in check, income taxes will be cut, and tuition will not be allowed to increase at the University of Wisconsin.
