MADISON, Wis. -

Republican state Senate Majority Leader Scott Fitzgerald says GOP candidates for the Senate are not coordination their campaigns with outside groups, even though it is allowed under the law.

Fitzgerald commented Thursday when asked if such coordination was going on. The issue has been in the spotlight for years since a secret investigation into whether Gov. Scott Walker illegally coordinated with outside groups during his 2012 recall campaign.

The state Supreme Court ruled that the coordination Walker did with outside groups like Wisconsin Club for Growth was legal because it did not amount to express advocacy.

Fitzgerald says his focus as leader of Senate Republicans during the recalls was to raise money for the candidate campaigns.
