Wisconsin state Senate Democrats are set to meet to select their leaders for the upcoming legislative session.

The meeting Tuesday comes after Republicans dominated this month's elections. Bolstered by Republican-drawn legislative district boundaries, the GOP didn't lose a Senate and ousted Democratic incumbent Julie Lassa of Stevens Point along the way to emerge with a 20-12 advantage in the chamber.

Republicans are hoping they can gain one more member; returns show Minority Leader Jennifer Shilling of La Crosse with a 56-vote lead over GOP challenger Dan Kapanke, who has until Wednesday to request a recount.

Shilling still plans to run Tuesday for minority leader despite the Democrats' poor showing and the uncertainty of her own race. It's unclear if anyone in her caucus plans to challenge her.
