MADISON, Wis. - A New Berlin business owner is featured in an ad from Gov. Scott Walker, who is fighting a recall effort.
"Gov. Walker is a friend to small business here, and he recognizes that 70 percent of the jobs created in this country and in this state are by small businesses," says a man identified as "Chris, Business owner" in the ad.
Business owner "Chris" is Chris Rebholz, president and CEO of Christopher Morgan Fulfillment Services LLC, based in New Berlin.
The company produces infomercials and distributes products that people may have seen on TV.
"He wants all of the people in this state to be successful. It is comforting," says Rebholz in the ad. "And it has been rare, so it is a refreshing change."
WISC-TV found this needs clarification. While this may be Rebholz's personal view, previous administrations have not seemed to hinder his company's growth.
Rebholz was honored by Business Times Magazine of Milwaukee with a Bravo Entrepreneur award in 2008, in part because Rebholz said he was able to grow his company from $400,000 in revenue in 2002 to $5.6 million in 2007, and that all would have happened under the administration of Democratic Gov. Jim Doyle.
The company's growth hasn't stopped during the recession, posting record revenues in 2008 and 2009. Rebholz told Biztimes.com that his company does well in a down economy because "traditional companies are downsizing and looking to outsource work to companies like ours."
"We can see that if Wisconsin continues on a pro-business strategy, we are going to grow our staff here," Rebholz says in the ad.
WISC-TV found this is true. Rebholz recently told Biztimes.com that his company had bought a Pennsylvania firm and would be bringing some of those jobs to Wisconsin.
Rebholz is a donor to Walker, giving him $4,500 during the 2010 campaign, and an organization to which he belongs, the Milwaukee Metropolitan Chamber of Commerce, also strongly supported the governor in his 2010 campaign, giving more than $400,000 to the Republican Governor's Association to support his election bid.
