Kerkman wins redrawn Wis. Assembly district
AP: Kerkman led Steinbrink by about 10 percentage points
Republican Samantha Kerkman has defeated Democrat John Steinbrink in an odd battle of incumbents in a redrawn state Assembly district.
Kerkman, of Genoa City, had represented the 66th Assembly District in far southeastern Wisconsin. Steinbrink, of Pleasant Prairie, had represented the 65th Assembly District right next door to Kerkman's area.
But Republicans who control the Legislature redrew district boundaries last year. Lawmakers redo the lines once every decade to account for population shifts reflected in the U.S. Census.
Kerkman and Steinbrink both found themselves in a reshaped 61st Assembly District.
According to returns tabulated by The Associated Press, Kerkman led Steinbrink by about 10 percentage points with all precincts reporting.
