A federal judge ordered the state Monday to update the court on its efforts to comply with a recent ruling on the voter ID law.
Judge James Peterson held a telephone conference Monday afternoon after a request from liberal group One Wisconsin Institute. They asked the court to require the state to prove they're complying with a recent decision requiring publicity of options for voter ID.
The decision, which was issued in late July, told the state to "adequately inform the general public" that those who enter a petition process to get a voter ID can use a receipt of that process as adequate voter ID for the November election.
Peterson ordered the state Monday that they must provide a "thorough report" to the court by Sept. 22 of their efforts to inform the public of this option.
