The group formed by former congresswoman Gabby Giffords and her husband Mark Kelly to push for new gun control measures is trying to build support in the Western U.S.
In what is called a "significant" six figure ad buy, Americans Responsible for Solutions is putting up web ads in Giffords' home state of Arizona as well as in Colorado, Montana and Nevada mentioning senators in each state (http://www.aurorasentinel.com/).
Giffords and Kelly have focused their efforts on the proposal for universal background checks so that will they include guns bought at shows or online.
President Obama is traveling to Colorado today to try to drum up support for the gun control proposals which the Senate is expected to take up later this month.
The group's spokeswoman says it is also launching targeted web ads in those same four western states trying to pressure opinion leaders and gun owners.
Group officials say they hope since Giffords and Kelly are from the West and are gun owners themselves that will help convince people in the region to support expanding background checks.
Giffords is also expected to have op-eds in newspapers in those states in the coming days.
