MADISON, Wis. -

A Madison woman was arrested Thursday night for attempting to steal a purse and threatening to shoot people involved, according to a release.

Police said Sheryl C. Barnes, 42, grabbed a purse from a table at McDonald’s at 2402 S. Park St. around 6:35 p.m.

The owner of the purse and a witness chased Barnes and attempted to get the purse back in the parking lot, according to the release.

Barnes began swinging an item believed to be the barrel of a weapon and started threatening to shoot the people attempting to get the purse back, officials said. A restaurant employee was able to retrieve the purse.

Barnes was seen entering a residence and was taken into custody a little while later, according to the release.

She was arrested on charges of theft and robbery.
