MADISON, Wis. -

Madison police are seeking the public’s help in identifying two people they believe are using counterfeit bills.

Two counterfeit bills were passed on Madison's west side on Oct. 4, according to police. The suspects washed a $5 bill and copied the information from a $100 bill onto the $5 bill.

Police said those handling cash should look for the watermark on the $100 bill. The watermark of the $5 bill is still visible on the fake bills.

The male counterfeiter was seen wearing a black Nike shirt, black fishing hat, blue jeans and glasses. The woman was seen wearing a black Spider-Man T-shirt and a pink wallet.

Anyone with information about the case is asked to contact Madison Area Crime Stoppers or call 608-266-6014.
