Police: Man walks away from crash, charged with 2nd OWI

26-year-old, passenger suffer minor injuries

MADISON, Wis. -

A 26-year-old man was charged with a second-offense OWI Saturday morning after police said he fled the scene of a crash. 

The Madison Police Department said Justin Amidon was exiting the Beltline at Fish Hatchery Road at about 1:52 a.m. when he crashed the vehicle he was driving. 

Witnesses told police Amidon walked to a nearby gas station, where officers found and arrested him.

Amidon and a passenger in the vehicle suffered minor injuries despite significant damage to the vehicle, police said. 

Amidon was charged with second-offense OWI and a probation violation.
