MADISON, Wis. -

A Madison couple was robbed by a man who originally offered to help them load groceries into their minivan Sunday afternoon, police said.

The husband and wife, both 82 years old, were approached by the man outside of Capitol Centre market on North Broom Street around 2:30 p.m., according to a release. He asked the couple for a few dollars in exchange for putting groceries into the minivan.

The robber was able to convince the couple to give him a ride to Catalpa Road, official said. When they got to the south side location, the robber threatened to hurt the husband if he did not give up his wallet.

According to the release, the husband turned over his wallet and the robber fled on foot.

Investigators said a second man may have gotten into the couple’s van and rode to the south side location.

The robber is described as a black man in his 20s with a shaved or bald head, wearing dark clothing.
