VERONA, Wis. -

Police said a 43-year-old man led law enforcement on a 60-mile vehicle chase across county lines that began in Verona and ended in Lafayette County.

The Verona Police Department said officers attempted to stop a vehicle in the city at 2:48 a.m. Saturday on suspicion of multiple traffic violations. Police also said the vehicle was suspected of being involved in recent thefts.

According to the report, David Colombo, of Loves Park, Ill., did not stop the vehicle and led officers on a pursuit across the four counties that lasted more than an hour.

Police said law enforcement in Lafayette County deployed road spikes to stop the vehicle. The vehicle eventually stopped on Highway 11 in Lafayette County where Colombo ran out of the vehicle and fled officers on foot, Verona police said.

Colombo was taken into custody in a nearby field, the report said. Colombo was taken to Dane County Jail and charged with knowingly fleeing a traffic officer.

The investigation into the thefts continues, police said.

Officials said the 60-mile chase spanned Dane, Green, Iowa and Lafayette counties.

The Verona Police Department was assisted by the Mt. Horeb Police Department K-9 unit, Argyle police , Blanchardville police and the Lafayette County Sheriff’s Office.
