JANESVILLE, Wis. -

A couple accused of stealing a puppy from a pet store Saturday night have been arrested, according to a news release from the Janesville Police Department.

Police said the theft was reported around 5 p.m. at Petland at 2021 Humes Road.

The couple went into the store and asked to see a pug puppy. The man is seen on surveillance cameras putting the puppy under his shirt and leaving the store, police said.

The black 11-week-old pug was found in good health and returned to Petland.

Store representative Michael Sardina said the puppy went home with his new family on Tuesday. Aaron Schwartz and Rachael Olivas bought the puppy and named him Daniel. The total amount of money the couple paid, $2,699.99, will be donated to the Janesville police K-9 unit, Sardina said.

He said puppies like Daniel typically cost a couple thousand dollars.

Thomas J. Haye, 20, of Janesville, was arrested on suspicion of felony retail theft and dognapping. Allison G. Prijic, 21, of Janesville, was arrested on suspicion of being a party to felony retail theft and being a party to dognapping.

Police said tips to Crime Stoppers helped them make the arrests.
