MADISON, Wis. -

Madison police say they’re looking for a man who approached an 11-year-old girl and frightened a postal worker on Thursday.

Officers were called to the 1800 block of Prairie Road at 3:30 p.m. for a report of a man who followed the girl, told her he was conducting a survey and followed her to a home.

Police said the girl ignored the man and immediately went to the home of a trusted adult.

When police canvassed the area, they talked to a 36-year-old postal carrier who reported seeing a man fitting the description of the man who approached the girl.

She told police she was getting mail from her truck at Cathy Court and Birch Hill Drive when she saw the man lying on a snowbank behind the truck and masturbating. She said she was frightened and quickly got away.

The man was last seen heading north on Lomax Lane. A police dog was used to track the man but he was not found.

The man is described as white, 20-30 years old with an average build. He was wearing gray sweatpants, a blue or gray jacket and a light-colored winter hat.
