Police: Kids rob gas station at gunpoint
Woman waiting in vehicle may be in custody, chief says
Police said a department in Illinois may have a woman in custody who authorities believe played a part in a gas station robbery Thursday. Walworth police Chief Chris Severt said the boy and girl who robbed the store were between 10 and 15 years old and fled in a vehicle driven by the woman.
According to the Walworth Police Department, officers responded to a report of an armed robbery at a gas station just before 10 a.m.
A Citgo store clerk told police two kids robbed him at gunpoint.
Severt said the clerk locked himself in an office and called 911 after opening the safe.
A witness pumping gas told police the two suspects fled the business eastbound on Maple Avenue.
Police said they believe authorities in Lake Zurich, Ill., may have a woman associated with the robbery in custody and Walworth officers were on their way to the Chicago suburb Thursday afternoon.
Police said others in the neighborhood observed the suspects enter a tan full size pickup truck with dual wheels, pulling a white RV trailer, approximately 30 feet long with three windows on the driver side. The awning on the trailer appeared to be partially open, according to the report.
The vehicle was last seen on video approximately five minutes later southbound on Highway 14 at the Wisconsin-Illinois State Line.
Police said one suspect was described as a young white girl with shoulder-length blond hair wearing a royal blue T-shirt with red and white lettering, blue jeans and white athletic shoes.
The second suspect was a white boy, about 13-15 years old with dark brown hair wearing a green shirt and tan shorts, police said. He was seen carrying a black and white canvas bag over one shoulder.
A possible third suspect in the vehicle was a white man but no further description of the third subject, police said.
Police said the suspects stopped at churches and businesses asking for money and claiming to be a young family in need of help on their way to Prairie du Chien, Wis.
Authorities have been notified throughout Wisconsin and Northern Illinois, Severt said.
Anyone with information is asked to call the Walworth police at 262-275-6585.
The Citgo gas station is at 122 S. Main St.
