MADISON, Wis. -

Madison police are reminding residents to keep their doors locked after a man entered an unlocked apartment early Saturday morning.

Police were called to an apartment near South Randall and Mound streets at 12:55 a.m. on Saturday for a report of an unknown man pounding on the external door and ringing the doorbell. The three residents in the apartment told police they were disturbed enough that one of them armed himself with a baseball.

Officers were then contacted by a couple in a nearby apartment who said an unknown man walked into their unlocked apartment. When asked why he was there, the man told the couple "I'm here because I was chosen to be here."

The couple told police they believed the man was having a mental health crisis and they escorted him out of their apartment.

The man is described as white, 19-22 years old, 5 feet 10 inches tall, with a thin build and weighing 150 pounds. He was wearing a black jacket and dark-colored slacks.

Police are reminding residents to make their they keep their doors locked.
