A man who allegedly took money from an east side pet clinic and then climbed a ladder to a nearby restaurant’s roof was arrested Monday night, according to a release.
Officers were dispatched to the East Towne Pet Clinic on East Towne Boulevard after receiving reports that a person came into the business and took money out of the cash drawer Monday afternoon, officials said.
When employees confronted the man, he returned all but a small amount of the money and left, according to the release.
Officers arrived with a K-9 to track the man, but he was not found.
Around 6 p.m., a person matching the description of the robber was seen in the East Towne Mall area, police said. Officers tracked the man past various businesses and ultimately to the roof of a Chili’s restaurant, where he had climbed a ladder that was propped against the building.
Officers talked with the man, later identified as Roy Mitchell, 33, of Madison, on the roof, where he was arrested, according to the release.
A Madison Fire Department ladder truck was brought in to get Mitchell safely off the roof.
Mitchell was arrested on tentative charges of misdemeanor theft, resisting and obstructing an officer and on a probation hold.
