Police: 20-minute standoff ends without injuries

Janesville man charged with domestic violence, disorderly conduct

JANESVILLE, Wis. -

A brief standoff with police at a Janesville home ended without injuries Saturday morning, police said. 

The Janesville Police Department said officers responded to the 2400 block of Ruger Avenue at 7:38 a.m. for a report of a disturbance. The report said a man at the residence had threatened to arm himself with a firearm.

Officers set up a perimeter, evacuated other residents and spoke with 31-year-old Frederick Guist, who police said had retreated into a room where firearms where kept at the home.

About 22 minutes later police said officers took Guist into custody.

Guist was charged with domestic violence battery and disorderly conduct while armed.

Guist was taken to the Rock County Jail.

Police said no injuries were reported and normal traffic in the area was restored at 8:09 a.m.
