The Madison Police and Fire Commission announce they will be accepting applications for the open police chief position from inside and outside the police department.
According to a release, the commission received comments from a variety of sources regarding standards and procedures for the appointment of the next police chief.
“While we are deeply gratified by the strength of the department and the leadership available among its current personnel, the recognized national stature of the department and the city encourages us to welcome candidates from the Madison Police Department and more broadly from the profession at large,” the release said.
Officials said the appropriate notices and applications are being prepared to conduct a rigorous selection and appointment process.
The calendar for the appointment process to replace Noble Wray, who left the department at the end of September, is expected to be released within the next 10 days.
