TOMAH, Wis. -

A Monroe County Highway Department worker was transported to the hospital Tuesday after being hit in the head with an oversized load on the interstate, according to a release.

Officials responded to a crash Tuesday around 9:15 a.m. on Interstate 90 eastbound in Monroe County near Tomah, according to the release.

The Monroe County Highway Department was working in the right lane, which was closed for maintenance, according to the release.

Officials said a semitrailer with an oversized load that had an overhang on the right side came through the construction zone and struck a maintenance worker, Dwight R. Kuehl, 52, of Tomah, in the head.

Kuehl sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to Tomah Memorial Hospital, according to the release.

The driver of the semitrailer, Lowell S. Goss, 77, of Houston, Minn., didn’t sustain any injuries.

The incident remains under investigation.
