WISC Seeking A Fair Deal With Charter
Numbers show Charter's not negotiating fairly
WISC-TV and TVW are down to the wire in our negotiations with Charter which has built a multi-billion dollar empire by buying programming from us and others and then selling it to you in a package.
If you could see what Charter pays for the cable-only stations they carry, you would have a better understanding of why WISC-TV doesn't think Charter is negotiating fairly with us.
Local broadcast stations are by far the most viewed stations on Charter. Yet, look at your Charter cable bill and see what they charge you for local stations. It's $2.15 a month and soon going to be $3.50 a month. And remember that's a fee for ALL local broadcast stations, not just WISC-TV.
We don’t understand why Charter wants to remove the most popular station’s from their line-up when they are paying so many other less-watched channels more fees... but apparently, we’re not alone.
It appears Charter is trying to hold down what it pays local broadcasters across the country because fees charged by national cable channels, especially those that include sports, have skyrocketed.
When was the last time Charter threatened to drop one of the national cable networks who have a fraction of WISC’s viewing and provide no LOCAL News?
WISC-TV has successfully negotiated hundreds of carriage agreements. Charter has negotiated THOUSANDS.
We both know what's fair.
WISC-TV is willing to make a very fair deal with Charter similar to all of the other recent deals we have made with its competitors. If BOTH parties can continue to compromise, a deal can be reached. Without more compromise, WISC-TV will be removed from Charter. No doubt that would be bad for both companies
We really didn't think it would come to this but if you value WISC-TV programming, you may have to switch providers to continue watching us after Dec 31st. If you stick with Charter, please have patience with us both while we continue to negotiate.
