There was a study recently that suggested a healthy community is better able to withstand a crisis like a storm or dangerous heat wave. In other words, healthy communities are more resilient and, probably, resilient communities are healthier.
There is an exciting experiment going on in Madison’s Moorland-Rimrock Road community that is going to help us all understand what constitutes a resilient community. The Resilience Research Center is studying what citizens need and what assets contribute to a healthy community.
This Saturday, the Resilience Neighborhood Center on East Badger Road is holding a Community Health & Wellness Fair, bringing together local health providers, fitness professionals and others to offer free health information, blood pressure checks, child dental screenings, healthy food samples and more.
Obviously this is important for the neighborhood and we hope there’s a great turnout.
We also like the example set by the Resilience Research Center and think that’s something we can all benefit from.
