BIPARTISAN WISDOM ON IMMIGRATION REFORM
This is shaping up to be quite a week. From United States Supreme Court decisions to Congressional action to Sunday’s expected signing of the biennial state budget, every one of us is experiencing policy changes that will affect our lives in significant ways. Some of course are more positive than others. Certainly that’s the case with Thursday’s passage of sweeping immigration reform by the United States Senate.
As is true with virtually every similar story this week immigration reform remains a work in progress. Passage by the House of Representatives currently seems unlikely. But also like the Supreme Court decisions on voting rights and gay marriage, the bi-partisan vote in the Senate reflects a changing America that will ultimately require change in how we think and how we function and how we govern. There are examples this week of such changes rooted in justice and virtue and for that we are heartened.
