Editorially, we feel one of the most important things we can do right now is direct your attention to serious, committed efforts to address climate change as an antidote to the irresponsible denial of its scientific evidence by too many elected officials, including of course Wisconsin’s own Senator Ron Johnson. Rather than constantly criticize these politicians for the harm they are doing, to which they pay no attention, better we should support people who are ignoring the politics and trying to reverse the damage. Like the U-W Madison-led, USDA-funded project to identify dairy production practices that minimize emission of greenhouse gasses.
Researchers from seven universities, five federal labs and the U.S. Departments of Agriculture and Energy are looking for ways to improve dairy production while decreasing negative impacts. In other words it’s proactive, it’s comprehensive in its approach, and it’s smart. And the accumulation of these efforts by so many is slowly rendering obstructionist politics irrelevant.
