THANKS ALDER BRUER, ET AL
As we look back at the Spring election we are impressed with the number of contested races that were featured on the ballot. There were more than usual and that’s good for democracy. We were also impressed with the quality of those candidates and the campaigns they ran. And as always we appreciate the desire to serve that resulted in these folks making the commitment to hold elected office.
We want to give special recognition however to Alderman Tim Bruer who was defeated in his bid for reelection to the Madison City Council. Bruer was the council’s longest serving member having been elected in 1984. Twenty-nine years is a lot of Tuesday nights in the City-County Building, to say nothing of the countless additional hours required or offered. Bruer lost a hard fought race, but no one worked harder for his South Madison constituents over the last three decades. That part of town is better for having had Bruer represent it, and that’s made Madison a better city as well.
