If we needed any evidence of the unity of purpose and vision of Dane County’s diverse and growing Latino community, Thursday morning’s Community Call to Action news conference was a powerful display of that unity.
More than a dozen leaders of the Latinx Community -- Latinix is a new word to us but a gender, geographic and culturally inclusive descriptor -- have created a collaborative, comprehensive series of action steps in the areas of health, education and income for Dane County’s more than 30,000 Latinix residents.
It clearly spells out the need to invest in a long-term but immediate strategy to repair disparities and reduce poverty.
It was significant the news conference was at United Way, and attendees included law enforcement, city and county, business and nonprofit representatives, and dozens of Latino citizens and advocates.
These folks have got it together. Now the rest of us need to step up for a strong and health and just Dane County.
