Killing The Messenger
Lawmakers have bizzare priorities.
KILLING THE MESSENGER
Here’s the state of politics today: if you want to stay in office, raise more money, however and wherever you can. If you want to make sure you stay in office, re-draw district lines so your opponent doesn’t have a chance. To make really sure, make it harder for people who would vote for your opponent to be able to vote at all. And if you don’t like the decisions of a nonpartisan, government accountability board, try to make it more partisan.
So, don’t work hard on behalf of your constituents, act responsibly, honorably and ethically, connect with the people in your district, listen to and respect other points of view and abide by the rules of fair play. Just do whatever it takes to win and stay in power. And thus Republican Senate Majority Leader Scott Fitzgerald proposes gutting the independent panel of six retired, respected, thoughtful judges appointed by governors of both parties. It doesn’t get any clearer than that.
