HIRE – SHAPING OUR COMMUNITY’S WORKFORCE
The ongoing struggle to create jobs and deal with a stubborn unemployment situation in this country may in fact be resistant to traditional methods of post-recession recovery. The world has simply changed. Work is different, and education and training must change. Here in Wisconsin we seem to be stuck in a useless blame game which isn’t helping matters. Which makes Wednesday’s employment event at the Madison College West Campus so welcome.
It’s the United Way of Dane County-sponsored HIRE Education Employment Initiative, and its agenda is simply matching employer needs with skilled employees. The initiative is a partnership with nine other agencies and aims to help employers who need skilled labor find those workers, diversify their workplaces, help potential employees with critical thinking and problem solving skills, and position employers as partners in building the local economy. It’s Wednesday from 4:30 to 6 at Madison College West on Gammon Road, and it’s free. And it’s a needed strategy for putting more people back to work.
