WISC EDITORIAL AGENDA 2012 - THE NEW WORKFORCE - ENTREPRENEURISM
Last weeks job creation numbers for Wisconsin were dismal, again. We remain right near the bottom of all states for job creation. Most of the response by government was blatantly political in nature. In other words, useless. The more thoughtful and helpful response was to be found at a discussion taking place at the Wisconsin Institutes for Discovery by a group of people who have participated in a five year effort to promote entrepreneurial thinking on campus.
With a grant from the Kaufman Foundation, these folks have been working with faculty and students to create an inter-disciplinary culture of entrepreneurism, both on campus and throughout the state in the spirit of the Wisconsin Idea. And it's working. It's taking hold and influencing the way the University operates and the way students learn. That's the new workforce. And that's where real job creation will take place, no thanks to politicians.
