MEASURED RESPONSE

09/12/12

The United States needs to know who is responsible for the bombing that killed Ambassador to Libya J. Christopher Stevens, and we need to know if Stevens was the target of the attack. The sort of random bombings and attacks that simply disregard human life with which we have become all too familiar are bad enough, but the murder of a diplomat is a political statement of a different kind and warrants a measured response.

And speaking of measured response, that refers to all of our elected officials and their opponents in the Fall’s election. One of the best indicators we have of how those who seek to represent us will indeed lead is how they respond to these kind of unforeseen events. Do they project serious thought, or do they sink instantly to political advantage? That too is a response worth paying attention to.
