Madison Community Foundation president Kathleen Woit says libraries "are part of the thread that holds communities together." The Foundation has backed up that belief over the last few years with major investments in both renovation and endowment funds for Dane County branch libraries as well as a $500,000 pledge for renovation of the Central Library. And we think it's money well spent.

This week is National Library Week and Dane County Libraries are participating with a Beyond the Page project with unique displays, bookmarks and brochures with staff in special t-shirts. It's all about the importance of libraries in healthy communities and, yes, libraries have a still-critical place in a 21st Century knowledge delivery system. Perhaps more important than ever. If you haven't been in a library in a while we urge you to stop by for a visit. And stay tuned for more creative support of libraries by the Madison Community Foundation as 2012 goes on.
