As we continue to look at the elections two weeks from now through the lens of our editorial agenda for the year we have to say jobs is the one topic we’ve heard a lot about from a lot of candidates.
Unfortunately very little of the rhetoric has had any meaning or value.
Our agenda item was the antithesis of empty promises of x-number of jobs created in x-amount of time. Those are unsubstantiated, insupportable claims.
Rather it was a request for clear thinking and smart ideas about how to create 21st century jobs, how to educate and train workers for those jobs and how to retool our institutions and infrastructure for those jobs.
Have you heard anything on that from any candidate that you felt you could trust?
We haven’t either.
What makes this issue even tougher is typically both parties use it as a weapon against their opponent rather than the desperate civic need it is.
