Officials have released the name of the man who died after being shot on Madison’s near east side Monday night.
Fredrica Hanger, 33, was shot in the 1300 block of East Wilson Street around 7 p.m. on Monday, according to a release. Hanger was transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead.
The Department of Corrections confirms Fredrica Hanger was released from prison a week ago after serving nine years for armed robbery.
The shooting resulted from a fight between Fredrica Hanger and his 39-year-old brother, Bonnell Hanger, officials said. Bonnell Hanger is in custody on a tentative charge of felon in possession of a firearm.
Police said they arrested Bonnell Hanger near the scene Monday night, and that they're still working with witnesses to identify him in a lineup.
"Sadly, a lot of domestic situations become very violent and sometimes deadly," Madison Police Department spokesman Joel DeSpain said. "Typically it’s more of a male, female (situation), but here we have two brothers. But there was something going on that brought the older brother to the residence armed with a handgun."
Police said Fredrica Hanger was shot at least once.
