APPLETON, Wis. -

No charges will be filed against two New London police officers who fatally shot a man who drew a realistic-looking toy gun last month.

Outagamie County District Attorney Carrie Schneider said the officers fired on 31-year-old Kole Knight because they thought the gun was real.

Schneider said officers Brody Erickson and Ryan Denu approached Knight on Aug. 19 because Knight had warrants out for his arrest.

Dash cam video from the patrol car shows the officers spotted Knight riding a bicycle. WLUK-TV reported that the shooting began after the officers told Knight to put his hands up.

Knight's fiancee said he was suicidal and took a toy gun belonging to her son.

New London Police Chief Jeff Schlueter said both officers remain on administrative leave while an internal investigation continues.
