I'm somewhat ashamed to admit this, but in the past, there have been people I know who don't always tell the truth and I always wanted to bust them. When I was young, my parents would always say that life has a way of uncovering the fakes. It would happen in time.
Well, I've never been a patient person and have often wondered about catching one of these types in a verbal checkmate, if you will. The place where they have nowhere to squirm too because there is no escape from their own prison. Even better is when they have created that prison themselves.
I know it doesn't make me a better person, but sometimes, it's nice for the good guy to win outside of Hollywood.
Case in point, I present to you an email from "Mrs. Albertina Aman." She is apparently a branch manager with a bank in Ghana who got my name from "our chamber of commerce." The note itself is pretty typical in that it asks me to help her invest $7.25 million in the U.S.
We've seen this before and even featured it before in this space. So, why am I making a big deal out of this in this space? It's because of the last couple lines of the email.
"I am confident that you alone are the best person for this. Please don't tell anyone else about my request."
That, too, is not very surprising. We've highlighted these calls for silence before and how they're red flags.
The problem here is this: I received this email at work. I also received this email at my personal account. And my wife received this on her email account.
How can there be more than one "best person" for this? There can't because it's a sham, a scam that appears as Spam.
Just hit delete and don't believe the intensely personal plea of those who have somehow discovered you. They're not just sending these to you. They're trying to get anyone they can to bite.
I feel somewhat better today having conclusively proven Mrs. Albertina Aman or whoever she/he is is a fraud.
