Voters will notice a change at the ballot box just in time for spring primaries.

According to a release from Dane County Clerk's Office, beginning Feb. 18 voters will fill in ovals next to the name of candidates they wish to vote for instead of completing arrows.

The tabulators will also immediately inform voters whether their ballots are valid and a display message will appear on the screen with the appropriate directions.

The new scanners will be replacing 20-year-old voting machines, officials said. The uniformity of the machines countywide will ensure an easier night for poll workers.

Along with immediate validation, votes will be scanned and stored as digital photos.
