MADISON, Wis. -

Madison College public safety workers are testing new technology that has been found useful for other police departments.

Lt. Jim McFarlane showed off new cameras that clip onto an officer’s uniform Wednesday. The small cameras can be switched on and off when the officers go on a call.

McFarlane said the cameras can reduce any confusion in the aftermath or investigation of a tense situation.

“I think in this day and age, when there’s a bit of mistrust of the public toward governmental agencies, I think a tool like this can help bridge that gap and restore that trust,” McFarlane said.

MATC is testing out cameras from different companies with the hope to have the cameras permanently installed by next year.
