Skaters can finally lace up and get ready to enjoy the new Sun Prairie Ice Arena.
After years of work and millions of dollars, the arena opened its doors Saturday night.
The 94,000 square foot arena features two NHL-sized hockey rinks, with each one able to seat hundreds of fans.
Officials said it took a lot of elbow grease and manpower to get this place up and running.
"It's nine years in the making," said Jeff Thornton, president of the Sun Prairie Youth Hockey Association. "Hundreds and hundreds of volunteers. Thousands of hours of time. Great professionals came together to make a beautiful building for us. And to have it open tonight, have everybody come back, have our kids and families home for a change, it's been wonderful."
The arena is located near Sun Prairie High School.
Anyone interested in checking out the new facility can attend an open skate Monday, January 20, at 1 p.m.
