MADISON, Wis. -

Police said two Madison men were robbed downtown early Sunday morning by armed muggers.

The Madison Police Department said a 23-year-old and 24-year-old were walking on the 300 block of East Johnson Street at 1:07 a.m. when they were approached from behind by two men.

Armed with a handgun, the robbers demanded valuables and fled with one of the victims' wallets.

Police said a K-9 tracked the muggers to an area where it appeared they fled in a car.

One of the robbers was described as black, in his 20s, 5 feet 9 inches to 5 feet 11 inches tall and weighed 170 pounds. He had an athletic build, short hair, scruffy beard and was wearing a maroon sweater and dark jeans.

Police said the other robber was black, between 5 feet 9 inches to 5 feet 11 inches tall. He had an athletic build and was wearing dark clothing.
