MADISON, Wis. -

A 27-year-old Madison man was able to fight off two muggers on the near east side.

The Madison Police Department said the victim was walking on North Blount Street Sunday at about 10 p.m. when he was approached by two men.

The victim told police he was knocked to the ground while walking. He immediately sprang to his feet and started swinging at his assailants, which caused them to flee, police said.

The two robbers escaped with the victim's headphones, which were attached to his cell phone. The victim's cellphone was not taken.

The victim told police the attack happened quickly, lasted only seconds, and he had a feeling this was "not the first time they had done this," according to the report.
Police described the robber at black, in his 20s, between 5 feet 8 inches and 5 feet 11 inches tall wearing dark clothing.
