Sheriff: Fake Jeep giveaway Facebook page could be sold on black market to other scammers

FRIENDSHIP, Wis. - A scam being reported in Adams County claims Facebook users can win a Jeep Grand Cherokee, according to a release from the sheriff's office.

A Facebook Page called 4x4 Warehouse is claiming it has decided to give away five 2016 Jeep Grand Cherokee SRTs for the first time in Facebook history, officials said.

The post says any who likes the Facebook page, likes and shares the post, and posts the word "me" in the comments will be entered to win a Jeep, according to the release.

Officials said the post and Facebook page is fake, and no Jeeps are being given away.

According to the release, the Facebook page is designed to gather a large number of likes as quickly as possible, and is then redeployed to launch other types of scams.

The Facebook page may also be sold on the black market to other scammers, officials said. The more likes the fake Facebook page gets, the higher the price it will go for on the black market.
