MADISON, Wis. -

Two masked robbers walked away from an attempted gas station robbery without any cash, according to Madison police.

Police said the two men approached a female employee of the BP gas station at 4102 Commercial Avenue while she was taking out the trash at about 9 p.m. Wednesday.

The victim said they made her go inside and demanded she open the safe, but she was unable to open it. The robber then tried to steal her purse, but fled when she began to struggle with them, according to police.

Both men are described as black, in their 20s and wearing dark ski masks with a single eye slit and a mouth slit. One was wearing a black hooded sweatshirt, jeans, black and white sneakers and a black and red flat billed cap. The other was wearing a light-colored sweatshirt, white boxers or a white T-shirt pulled low and jeans that hung at the knees.
