WAUNAKEE, Wis. -

A manure digester in Waunakee has reported its second spill in two months, according to a release.

Clear Horizons Dane, LLC., operates the Dane Community Digester facility in Waunakee and reported to the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources Monday night a small release of manure from the digester, according to the release.

The manure released was recovered and fully contained on-site, officials said. No manure left the digester project site and there was no impact to surface waters.

This is the second spill within two months from the newly commissioned digester project, according to the release. The project is a public and private partnership aimed at reducing phosphorus levels in the Yahara River watershed and producing renewable energy.

After the November spill, Clear Horizons commissioned a study that just released its preliminary results.

According to the study, the ground settling or slight pipe movement caused susceptible pipes to fail at the elbow in the November incident. The second pipe failure was likely caused by the same issue.

The company is installing flexible connectors at the elbows to prevent future pipe issues, according to the release.
