A 79-year-old Waterloo man was flown to the hospital and arrested after a crash on Saturday afternoon, according to the Dane County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies were called to State Highway 73 at Clarkson Road in the town of York at 5:45 p.m. for a report of a single-vehicle crash.
Investigators said the driver, Gerald E. Turley, was traveling south on Highway 73 when he failed to negotiate a curve. His 2003 Mercury Marauder left the roadway and struck a tree. Turley was unresponsive and needed to be extricated. He was flown to University of Wisconsin Hospital with life-threatening injuries. His condition improved by Monday morning.
His passenger, Karen L. Turley, 70, of Waterloo, also needed to be extricated from the vehicle and was taken to UW Hospital by ambulance with serious but non-life-threatening injuries, according to deputies.
Gerald Turley was arrested f on suspicion of operating while intoxicated causing injury. He was cited on suspicion of failure to maintain control.
