A 27-year-old man was able to tackle an alleged thief to get back his stolen laptop, police said.
Madison police said a Williamson Street resident was working on his computer on his front porch Monday at about 6:10 p.m. when a stranger sat next to him.
According to the report, the stranger asked the man for a cigarette. When the Willy Street resident told the unknown man he didn't have a cigarette, police said he grabbed the laptop and took off.
The report said the laptop owner chased him onto South Baldwin Street and tackled the thief.
The computer hit the ground and the thief kept running, police said.
Police described the thief as a black man, between 22-25 years old with a medium-to-dark complexion and possibly short hair or a shaved head. He was wearing a white T-shirt, denim shorts and basketball shoes, the report said.
