MADISON, Wis. -

A west side couple was robbed at gunpoint as they parked their car at home, police said.

The Madison Police Department said a man and woman were returning home to the 3000 block of Jason Place at about 12:26 a.m. Monday when the robbery occurred.

As the woman drove into the garage, the door began to close, but then opened again. The victims told police that almost immediately a man confronted the woman at the driver's side of the car, brandished a gun and demanded money.

According to the report, the robber and the woman struggled over her purse, which she eventually gave up. A second robber went to the passenger side of the car and punched the man repeatedly.

A K-9 track indicated the robbers left the area in a vehicle. Witnesses told police a green SUV was seen leaving the area at a high rate of speed.

Police described the robbers as black, both heavyset and between 25 to 30 years old. Both were wearing dark clothes, the report noted.
