MADISON, Wis. -

A Madison man threatened a bartender and patrons of a downtown restaurant before threatening a police officer’s life, according to a release from Madison police.

Police said Michael P. Kennedy, 42, was causing a disturbance at Dotty Dumpling’s Dowry at 317 N. Frances St. on Monday by threatening the bartender, yelling at people inside the bar and refusing to leave. Officers said he threatened other patrons and refused to leave after the bartender refused to serve him.

Kennedy was accosting a passerby when officers arrived, according to the report. He was reportedly taken into custody after a short struggle and threatened an officer’s life while he was taken to jail.

Police said alcohol appears to be a factor in the incident.

Kennedy was arrested on suspicion of disorderly conduct, trespassing and resisting an officer.
