A man is recovering after accidentally shooting himself in the leg while in line at a Walmart in Phoenix.

The man had a gun on his hip, and it discharged accidentally while he was waiting to pay for his items Saturday afternoon, police told Phoenix TV station KTVK.

The gunshot caused confusion and panic among shoppers.

Christa Allejandro was checking out at the store when she heard a loud bang.

"It sounded like a balloon. ... We were in the aisle paying for our stuff and then the next thing you know, a couple of aisles down from me, we hear a gunshot and we see a man cover his belly," she told KTVK.
The man's injuries were not life-threatening and no one else was hurt.
