A horse owner was arrested after his horse was found malnourished and had to be euthanized, according to the Rock County Sheriff's Office.
Deputies were called to 8816 East Rye Drive in the town of Bradford on April 19 for an animal mistreatment complaint. Deputies said someone spotted a full-grown Friesian stallion named Davy lying on its side inside a barn. The horse was described as "skin and bones" and listless.
Jack Tuls, 70, euthanized Davy on a veterinarian's recommendation. Deputies said the veterinarian believed the horse was too malnourished for medical intervention.
Tuls was arrested Tuesday on suspicion of felony mistreatment of an animal.
Deputies said they're monitoring the welfare of the other animals on Tuls' property.
Tuls is the grandfather and father to a father and son who operate at 5,200-head dairy operation in eastern Rock County.
